Irréversible continues to make waves

by

Gaspard Noé’s latest film Irréversible, starring Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci continues to hog the international spotlight. At last week’s British premiere during the Edinburgh Film Festival, Noé said he would do everything in his power to stop the film from being distributed in the United Kingdom should the British Board of Film Censors go ahead with promised cuts. Numerous members of the public walked out of the Scottish screening during a controversial nine-minute highly realistic rape sequence while others fainted. Since its world premiere at this year’s Cannes film festival, Irréversible has courted controversy whilst attracting over 600,000 French filmgoers, despite a “16-or-over” rating. No date has yet been announced for the British release of this film that will almost certainly have a turbulent life cycle.
