Katalin Varga wins Top Award at CPH:PIX

by Peter Strickland won the New Talent Grand Pix Award (€50,000) last Saturday evening at the closing ceremony of the CPH:PIX film festival in Copenhagen.

This year's competition jury consisting of Irish writer-director Aisling Walsh (Song For A Raggy Boy), Danish actress Iben Hjejle (Defiance) and British filmmaker Thomas Clay (Soi Cowboy chose Strickland’s film because of 'the individuality of his approach, his visual sense, and the joined confident and consistent performances of his cast'. The Rumanian/UK/Hungarian co-production had already scooped the Outstanding Artistic Achievement (Music) at the last Berlinale.

The festival’s other main award, the Audience Award (given out by Danish newspaper Politiken) was given to Canada’s It’s Not Me, I Swear by Philippe Falerdeau. The film received DKK 125,000 towards the theatrical distribution in Denmark.
