Eastern European producers spotlighted at TrainEastFilm
by Toma Peiu
Six Eastern European film associations, supported by the MEDIA INTERNATIONAL Preparatory Action of the European Union and the Romanian Film Centre, will team up for the first edition of the TrainEastFilm training program.
TrainEast aims to create a strong network among film producers in the region, facilitate their access to international co-production opportunities, help them exchange information on a regular basis and stimulate their awareness of the dynamics of the international film industry.
The selected participants will benefit from project-based assistance and a one-week in-residence workshop, to be held in September in Tbilisi, Georgia. They will be trained by experienced European professionals: script consultant Clare Downs, media lawyers Wolfgang Brehm and Diana Butoeru, sales agent Esther van Messel, producers Guillaume de Seille and Tudor Giurgiu, professional skills development trainer Nina Gogoladze and producer Luciano Gloor, TrainEastFilm’s Head of Studies.
TrainEastFilm welcomes applications from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Ukraine and all Central and Eastern European EU countries. Applicants from other countries will be considered as well if they present a solid co-production project. The application deadline is May 31, 2009.
The program is implemented by the Romanian Film Sector Association (RFS) and Independent Filmmakers’ Association, a trans-national NGO based in South Caucasus (IFA-SC), while other partner associations are Moldova’s AltFilm, Turkey’s Ankara Cinema Association, the Molodist International Film Festival of the Ukraine and Latvia’s Film Studio Tanka.
