Dogma brothers to join forces

by

- Two of Denmark's most famous directors are to work together again on Dear Wendy, written by Lars von Trier and directed by Thomas Vinterberg in 2003, with an international cast

Two of Denmark’s most celebrated filmmakers and signatories of the revolutionary Dogma’95 manifesto, Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg, are to join forces to make a film entitled Dear Wendy. Von Trier wrote the screenplay to what was conceived of as the second title of an American trilogy that he began with Dancer in the Dark. Set in a mining town, Dear Wendy is about a group of youngsters obsessed by guns. He completed the script prior to directing Nicole Kidman in Dogville, and says that he knew right away that Thomas Vinterberg was the only director who could do justice to what many consider to be Von Trier’s most commercial film to date. Fortunately von Trier’s sentiments coincided perfectly with Vinterberg’s long-standing desire to make a film that someone else had written. He is currently doing post-production work on the score of his latest film It’s All About Love and will start work on Dear Wendy in 2003. The film will be made in English with an international cast.
A new company jointly owned by Denmark’s two most important production houses, Nimbus Films and Zentropa will be set up especially for this project that has a budget of Euros 5.3million.
