Prisa and Imagina’s audiovisual arms set to merge

by

Two of Spain’s largest media groups, Prisa and Imagina, have given themselves a month to “merge their respective audiovisual activities to create a new company, with split shareholdings".

This merger could affect companies such as Mediapro, Globomedia and Imagina International Sales (Imagina), as well as Sogecine-Sogepaq (part of Prisa, the leading media group on the Spanish-speaking market).

A joint negotiations committee will work on the business model for the future group, its management bodies and formulas to calculate respective investments.

For several months, Prisa and Imagina were engaged in continued disputes about football broadcast rights, including before the courts. After reaching an agreement on this matter, there are growing rumours of a possible merger between both groups’ TV networks, Sexta (Imagina) and Cuatro (Prisa).
