Coco Before Chanel enjoys roaring international success

has just exceeded the 1m admissions mark abroad, according to figures released by Unifrance.

This result makes the film starring Audrey Tautou (alongside Benoît Poelvoorde, Marie Gillain, Emmanuelle Devos and Alessandro Nivola) this year’s third most successful French-language title internationally, after The Class [+see also:

, which attracted 1.4m viewers each.

In Spain, where it was launched by Warner on June 5, Coco Before Chanel has drawn 275,000 cinemagoers. The feature has also amassed 200,000 admissions in Italy (released on May 29 - Warner Bros Italia); 125,000 in Poland, where, since its release on June 26, it hasn’t left the Top 5 (distributed by SPI); 100,000 in Australia since the end of June; 86,000 in the Netherlands (released on May 28 by RCV Nederland); 75,000 in Belgium (released at the end of April by Kinepolis Film Distribution); and 50,000 in Hong-Kong.

Fontaine’s film still has major potential on the international scene, for it will be launched on July 31 in the UK (Optimum Releasing) and Norway (Oro Film), and on August 13 in Germany (Warner). Before the end of the year, the film will hit screens in Japan, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Russia, Brazil, Argentina and the US (Sony Pictures Classics).

Paris-based Films Distribution has sold Coco Before Chanel to around 40 territories.
