Two Austrian documentaries to screen at Locarno

by

Contemporary Austrian documentaries, whose success and frequent political engagement recall the work of directors such as Hubert Sauper and Erwin Wagenhofer, continue to make appearances at international festivals. After the presentation of Sebastian Brameshuber’s Muezzin in the documentary competition at Karlovy Vary, the 62nd Locarno Film Festival (August 5-15) will show two Austrian feature-length documentaries.

The Here & Elsewhere section will screen Brigitte Weich’s Hana, dul, sed…, which explores an unfamiliar country, centring on four female players in the North Korean national football team. This title is produced by Ri Filme.

Meanwhile, Robert Cibis and Lilian Franck’s PianoMania, co-produced by Austrian company Wildart Film and Germany’s Oval Filmemacher, has been selected for Critics’ Week.
