Desert Flower at the Venice Days
by German Films
The Venice Days (September 3-12, 2009) have invited Peter Herrmann's production of the Sherry Hormann film Desert Flowerto screen in Venice.
Desert Flower is based on the best-seller of the same name by Waris Dirie, who recounts her impressive journey from life as an African nomadic girl to that of a international supermodel, but also describes the circumcision of women in her homeland of Somalia. The film is a modern fairytale between the glittering world of glamour and archaic rituals and, at the same time, an insistent plea against the inhuman tradition of genital mutilation.
