Akin’s Soul Kitchen leads German contingent

The new film by the Hamburg-based director Fatih Akin, Soul Kitchen [+see also:

, will have its world premiere in Competition at the 66th Venice International Film Festival (September 2-12). The German/French/Italian co-production was produced by Corazón International.

Also showing in Competition is the Essential Film production Women Without Men (Germany/Austria/France), the feature debut by internationally renowned artist Shirin Neshat.

Other German co-productions screening in Competition are Samuel Maoz’s Lebanon, Jessica Hausner’s Lourdes, Jaco van Dormael’s Mr. Nobody [+see also:

and Patrice Chereau’s Persecution.

Tender Parasites, the second feature film by directorial duo Christian Becker and Oliver Schwabe, produced by Rheinfilm, will celebrate its world premiere in the Horizons competition sidebar.

Horizons will also feature Romuald Karmakar’s Villalobos, on DJ-musician Ricardo Villalobos, who lives and works in Berlin; and the German co-production Paraiso by Hector Galvez.

Werner Herzog will be on the Lido with two films: Bad Lieutentant (US), a remake of Abel Ferrara's cult classic, will be presented in Competition, while La Boheme will be shown as a Special Presentation in Horizons.

This year's International Critics’ Week will host Jörgen Bergmark’s Scandinavian/German/Italian co-production A Rational Solution [+see also:
