The Match Factory has four titles in the line-up

German sales company The Match Factory will be present with a strong line-up of four films at Venice this year, starting with Fatih Akin’s latest, Soul Kitchen, making its world premiere in Competition. This movie about a young restaurant owner fighting for both his dwindling business and his girlfriend, who has moved away, was produced by Akin and Klaus Maeck for their Hamburg-based company Corazón International, in co-production with Pyramide Productions (Paris) and NDR (Hamburg) and in collaboration with Dorje Film (Rome). The film will be released in Italy by BIM Distribuzione.

Pepperminta, the debut feature of acclaimed visual artist Pipilotti Rist, will screen in the Horizons section. Its eponymous heroin is an anarchist of the imagination who believes colours can free people of their fears. This original title was produced in Zurich by Hugofilm and in Vienna by Antonin Svoboda of the auteur-cinema outfit coop99.

Sherry Hormann will present the world premiere of Desert Flower, based on a bestseller by Waris Dirie, as part of Venice Days. The film recounts the life of Dirie, from her childhood as an African nomad to her career as a supermodel, and tackles the theme of female circumcision. The cast of this much-anticipated German/Austrian/French co-production includes Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky [+see also:

), is about the bizarre experiment of two couples from a small industrial town to live together and share all. This Hepp Film production (in co-production with Pandora Film, Italian outfit Lucky Red and Finland's Blind Spot Pictures), will be released in Italy by Lucky Red on September 9, 2009.
