Munich Film Museum pays homage to Klopfenstein
The Munich Film Museum is hosting an important retrospective on Swiss director Clemens Klopfenstein. From September 17-December 9, 18 films by this whimsical auteur with a caustic sense of humour will be presented.
A resolutely independent filmmaker, Klopfenstein is not an exponent of commercial cinema and advocates a free cinematic style, full of fantasy and irony. Born on the shores of Bienne lake in 1944, he worked as a cameraman in the 1960s for Markus P. Nester and Markus Imhoof, whilst making his first shorts in 8 and 16mm. He currently lives in Italy.
The programme for the retrospective includes the detective film Die Fabrikanten (1974), co-directed by Urs Aebersold; Das Schweigen der Männer (1996), which won the 1998Swiss Film Prize; St Francis Birds Tour (2005); and WhoAfraidWolf (2000), centred on a group of actors on a bus journey across Umbria, who find themselves threatened by a wolf and an omnipresent camera.
