Tattoo girl finds US buyer

by Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev has been sold by Zodiak Entertainment to Chicago-based Music Box Films, who will release it theatrically in the US on March 10, 2010.

The first film based on Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy has now sold to over 30 territories, attracting more than 6.6 million cinemagoers around the world.

While Dragon Tattoo is steadily increasing its box office earnings, the second film of the series, The Girl Who Played with Fire [+see also:

, has also been breaking records in Scandinavia since its September 18 release. The film has garnered over 1.3m admissions from its theatrical runs in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

“The reception by Scandinavian audiences to Millennium 2 has been staggering and it has been one of the biggest cinema launches in the region ever,” said producer Sören Stærmose from Yellow Bird. “We are delighted that the Millennium phenomenon keeps growing.”

, once again starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist, will be launched in Scandinavia on November 23, 2009.
