Rome’s Business Street reopens with new director

With 15% more participants scheduled than in 2008, October 15 sees the kick-off of the fourth edition of the The Business Street market, created within the Rome International Film Festival.

One of the main objectives of the 2009 edition, directed by Roberto Cicutto on a budget €1.3, is to “lay the foundations for the creation of a great, single European market”, consolidating the ties between the Projects Factory (the co-production market) that will this year present 26 projects from throughout the world.

In collaboration with the Berlin Co-production Market and with prestigious partners such as Cinefondation-Cannes, Film London, 100autori, Atelier du Cinema Européen, the Projects Factory could become the cradle of international co-productions by emerging filmmakers.

Among the main novelties of this year is Italian Screenings, a two-day marathon of 20 Italian film premieres (October 16-17 at the Quattro Fontane Cinema) to be held for international buyers.

At the Hotel Majestic, on October 15, there will be a workshop organized by ANICA and the Institute for Foreign Commerce, on the Tax Shelter and Tax Credit. This will be followed by an event held by ANCINE (National Agency for Brazilian Cinema), entitled Government Support for the Film Industry in Brazil, a workshop on the various forms of state support for the film industry.

Argentinean producers will be the guests of the Capital Region for Cinema (CRC) Co-production Meetings, which aim to improve international co-production opportunities.

Once again this year, the General State of Cinema will be held during the festival, with three main focuses: The Promotion of Italian Cinema, The Revolution of Digital Cinema in Theatres, Cinema of the Regions; and a conference promoted by Media Consulting Group, Europe and the Middle East, on co-production opportunities with countries from the Middle East.

October 17 will be entirely dedicated to Europe with various events promoted alongside the MEDIA Programme and Eurimages.
