Riga celebrates 10th Nordic Film Days

A total of 15 Nordic films will screen from October 18-24 at the 10th Nordic Film Days in Riga, organised by the International Centre of Cinema in the Latvian capital, in collaboration with Nordea Bank and the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The festival has grown in popularity since its inception and is now a regular event in Latvian cinema life. The 15 recent films from the five Scandinavian countries are screening in two cinema venues – the K. Suns and Forum Cinema – and a jury of film journalists will present the top award, the Nordic Table, to the Best Feature Film.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun, two films based on the great novelist’s works are screening in Riga: Knut Hamsun’s Caucasian Mysteries, a Georgian documentary about Hamsun’s trip to Georgia, and the 1921 silent feature The Growth of the Soil, based on Hamsun’s Nobel Prize-winning novel.
