Co-written by the director and Olivier Gorce and based on Tanguy Viel’s eponymous novel, the film centres on Lise (Smet) and Sam (Grondin), a couple who have difficulty making ends meet and live mainly on the young woman’s income as a hostess in a private club.

Their life is turned upside down when Henri (Berling), a widower and local public figure, falls in love with Lise and asks to marry her. In agreement with Sam, who must now pretend to be her brother, she agrees, seeing this as the perfect opportunity to strip Henri of his fortune.

The two youngsters thus discover a seemingly idyllic world, but don’t imagine its hatred and resentment, including the hidden rivalry between Henri and his brother Edouard (Dérangère).

Insoupçonnable is produced for €4.5m by Frank Le Wita and Marc de Bayser for Film Oblige (whose line-up also includes Safy Nebbou’s L'Autre Dumas, in post-production - to be released by UGC on February 3, 2010 - see news). The budget includes co-production support from Swiss company CAB Productions and Rhône-Alpes-Cinéma, and pre-sales from Canal + and TPS.

The seven-week shoot will take place in Upper Savoy, by Lake Léman, in Lyon, Bellegarde and Switzerland. StudioCanal will handle French distribution and international sales.
