Loop, Killers to vie for Scottish BAFTAs

are the frontrunners in the nominations for the 2009 BAFTA Scotland Awards.

Helen Anderson, Director of BAFTA Scotland said: “I’m delighted to announce the nominations for 2009. The sheer volume of films, TV and games produced in Scotland this year is staggering – a real testament to Scotland’s burgeoning industry. There is some inspiring talent both in front of and behind the camera. I’m looking forward to next month’s ceremony and announcing our winners.”

This year, for the first time, there are three distinct digital media awards – sponsored by Scottish Enterprise. This recognises the increasing contribution played by Scotland’s games, web and interactive markets to the nation’s moving image industries.

The BAFTA Scotland Awards, which will take place on November 8, will again be web-cast with the full awards being streamed live on the Internet.

The film nominations are:

Acting in Film – Stephen McCole as Joe Frisk for Crying With Laughter; James Anthony Pearson as Sean Macdonald for New Town Killers; and Peter Capaldi as Malcom Tucker for In The Loop.

Director – Armando Iannucci, In The Loop; Richard Jobson, New Town Killers; Caroline Paterson/Stuart Davids, Wasted.

Feature FilmNew Town Killers, Crying With Laughter, Kurdi.

Short FilmThe Bedfords, Life of a Pigeon, Peter in Radioland, Little Red Hoodie.
