TRAINING Europe

EAVE Ties That Bind, a bridge between Europe and Asia

by

EAVE Ties That Bind, the new training programme for European and Asian producers, was presented in Rome last week by Alan Fountain (EAVE), Paolo Vidali (Friuli Venezia Giulia regional fund) and Isabella Tessaro (MEDIA Programme-MEDIA International). Its main aim is to create a network of contacts and long-term creative collaborations.

The first edition of the workshop will consist of two four-day residential courses to be held in Udine in April 2010 and the Korean town of Pusan in October of the same year. Ten producers, five from each continent, will have the opportunity to take part with a feature film project in development.

The workshop sessions will focus on different aspects of project development, including scriptwriting, financing possibilities in Asia and Europe, marketing, promotion, and the legal side of co-productions. The Pusan course will also include a series of meetings with heads of financial funds and sales companies from both continents.

This joint project between EAVE, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission and the Udine Far East and Pusan Film Festivals is backed financially by the MEDIA International Programme, which was set up with the intention of strengthening cultural and commercial relations between Europe’s film industry and filmmakers from third countries.

EAVE Ties That Bind is proof of the European industry’s growing interest in the Asian market. In preparation for this initiative, a pilot edition was held in April 2009 in Udine, at the Far East Film Festival. This met with the support of the Pusan festival, which in turn hosted another small workshop a few weeks ago.
