The final leg of shooting is underway in Normandy on Alix Delaporte’s debut feature Angèle et Tony, which tells the story of an ex-convict who tries to regain a stable life in an effort to get her child back.

The director, who won the Golden Lion for Best Short Film at Venice 2006 for How Do You Brake Going Downhill?, has put together a cast including Clotilde Hesme (who was nominated for the Best Female Newcomer Cesar 2008 for Love Songs [+see also:

film profile]), Grégory Gadebois (resident actor at the Comédie Française, in his first lead role on the big screen after many minor parts), Jérôme Huguet and Evelyne Didi.

Written by the director, the film centres on Angèle (Hesme), who is fiercely determined to get her son back, but is also afraid of seeing him after a two-year absence. To prove she is fully rehabilitated, Angèle has decided to meet someone and settle down.

A man means a roof over her head and possibly a room for her son. It’s also a semblance of family life, which reassures social services. To find a man, Angèle replies to classified ads and her search leads her to Tony (Gadebois), a fisherman from Normandy.

Angèle and her son have a relationship to rebuild. Angèle has a new home in a fishing port. Is the love affair between Angèle and Tony doomed to fail?

Produced by Hélène Cases for Lionceau Films, Angèle et Tony has received an advance on receipts from the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) and pre-sales from Canal+ and Ciné Cinéma.

Having kicked off on September 26 in Port-en-Bessin, shooting has taken place in Pont-l’Evêque, Lisieux, Caen and elsewhere. Domestic distribution and international sales will be handled by Pyramide.
