The film community has united in expressing its sadness at the death of the celebrated Madrid-born actor. Basque director Álex de la Iglesia, president of the Spanish Film Academy, commented: “His work is one of the pillars upholding our country’s film industry”.

Culture Minister Ángeles González-Sinde said: “His artistic legacy is that there are roles played by López Vázquez that are unimaginable in our collective memory without the face and voice of this wonderful actor”.

López Vázquez, who appeared in over 200 films, began his career as a comic actor before going on to play dramatic roles.
