by

The Finnish sci-fi comedy Iron Sky by Timo Vuorensola has been picked up for world distribution by the UK-based Stealth Media Group.

The €6.7m film is produced by Finland’s Tero Kaukomaa (Blind Spot Pictures) and Samuli Torssonen (Energia Productions), in co-production with Germany's 27 Films and Canada's Perfect Circle. Described as a cross between Doctor Strangelove and Mars Attacks, it features Nazis on the moon who plan to invade planet Earth.

Co-writers are Finnish sci-fi expert Johanna Sinisalo and US writer Michael Kalasniko. Cast members include Julia Dietze, Gotz Otto, Udo Kier and Tilo Pruckner. The filmmakers have also developed the storyline and overall film concept by using the community-based online website Wreck-a-Movie, and over 2.8 million hits have been registered on the film’s website even before the start of production.

“It's really a big step for us to sign with Stealth and to be able to concentrate on our production and our worldwide internet community," said Kaukomaa. Filming in Germany is scheduled to start in early 2010.
