Niko continues to reach for the stars

went straight to number seven at the German box office last weekend, with over 110,623 admissions from 450 prints for Universum Film.

The film directed by Kari Juusonena and Michael Hegner was the first Finnish production ever to open on such a large print run in Germany. World ticket sales have now surpassed 1.6 million, of which 600,000 in France alone. Germany was the 15th territory to release Niko.

The children’s film opened in Italy on October 30 (Videa CDE). The next European territories to open include Croatia on November 12 (MG Film), Lithuania on November 13 (ForumCinemas/Finnkino), Poland on November 27 (KinoSwiat) and Spain on December 25 (Filmax).

Nordisk Film re-released the film in Finnish cinemas late October. So far, over 233,000 Finnish kids and adults have watched the big screen adventures of the little reindeer who wants to be one of Santa’s elite flying reindeers. The DVD will be out on December 2, just in time to be included in Santa’s sack.

The 3D animation film was produced by Anima Vitae and Cinemaker (Finland), in co-production with A Film (Denmark), Magma Films (Ireland) and Ulysses (Germany), with world sales handled by Telepool.
