film profile].
Inspired by a real-life event – the discovery of the body of a Japanese man who let himself die of hunger in a forest whilst recording his slow agony in a diary – this docu-fiction invites us to reflect on human destiny and belongs to the purest tradition of cinema of the real.
Shown at numerous festivals (Rotterdam, Nyon, Toronto, Karlovy Vary, Warsaw, La Rochelle, Vienna, Leipzig) and crowned with many awards, The Sound of Insects is also the first Swiss film to win the Arte Award for Best Documentary. It will be presented to Liechti on December 12 at the 2009 European Film Awards ceremony.
