Six German (co-)productions to screen at Sundance

The Sundance Film Festival, currently headed by John Cooper, has selected six German (co )productions for its forthcoming edition, to be held from January 21-31.

Among the 14 titles vying for honours in the "World Cinema Dramatic" competition is Javier Fuentes-León’s Undertow, which was previously presented at San Sebastian. The film was co-produced by Cologne-based Neue Cameo Film, along with France, Colombia and Peru (with backing from the North Rhine-Westphalia regional fund).

The documentary competition will show Iranian-born, Munich-trained director Fatima Geza Abdollahyan’s Kick In Iran. Produced by brave new work, the film retraces the experiences of the first Iranian woman to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Also competing in this section is Yael Hersonski’s German/Israeli work A Film Unfinished.

The "Spotlight" line-up includes Venice prize-winners Women Without Men [+see also:

by Viennese director Jessica Hausner, which was co-produced by Germany’s Thermidor Filmproduktion and Essential Filmproduktion. Along with Hausner’s Austrian-based Coop99, the latter company co-produced both films.

Finally, the "New Frontier" section will screen Johan Grimonprez’s German/Dutch/Belgian documentary Double Take.
