Multikino crosses Polish border

by

The signing of a contract between Multikino (ITI Group) and ECE Projektmanagement, the leader on the European shopping centre market, will lead to the opening of a multiplex in the largest shopping centre in Lithuania: Ozas shopping arcade in Vilnius. The Multikino in Vilnius will be the network’s first multiplex to open outside Polish territory.

It is expected to open in the first half of 2010. This seven-screen multiplex will be equipped with 2D and 3D digital projection systems and have a total of 1,673 seats, including 500 in the largest theatre. The cinema will occupy over 3,500 square metres and be surrounded by bars and restaurants, like in Poland.

Founded in 1996, Multikino rapidly developed in Poland, opening its first multiplex in Poznan in 1998. The company currently owns 21 multiplexes (189 screens in total) in Poland’s largest cities: 16 under its own trade name and five under the name of Silver Screen, following Multikino’s acquisition in February 2008 of Apollo Silver Screen Word Cinema’s activities in Poland.

For Multikino, 2007 was marked by the opening of a spectacular multiplex in Warsaw (Złote Tarasy), which houses eight theatres. The largest of these (777-seater) has the biggest screen in Europe (275 m2), the third biggest in the world, with screenings in Dolby 3D.
