The roar of the Plastic Lion
Ticket paying members of the public at the Venice Film Festival have finally been given a voice. For a long time, a group of Venetian film fans felt that ordinary ticket-paying members of the public were neglected by the “Mostra” in favour of journalists, film industry insiders and critics. So last year, they created an amusing web site called Leone di Plastica and commissioned a local artist to create a special award from recycled material “because they don’t have much money”. The result was the Plastic Lion, made from old plastic bags and bottles, that will be presented to the best film, actor and actress in a special ceremony for this and other sidebar awards scheduled for 8 September in the Sala Perla of the Casino.
