Kinepolis climbs in Europe
- European success but domestic disappointment for Belgian exhibitor Kinepolis
During the first six months of 2002, more than 13 million Europeans chose to see a film in a theatre owned by Belgian exhibitor, Kinepolis. An 11.55% increase on the same time last year, caused in part by the recent opening of multiplexes in Poznan (Poland) and Valencia (Spain). France leads the way with 3.5 million Kinepolis clients (+1.88%), followed by Spain’s 2.5 million (a massive increase of 47.18%) and Italy’s 886,000 (+41.53%).
The situation’s not so rosy back home where first semester attendance at Kinepolis’ ten multiplexes was a reported 5.7 million (a drop of 4.27%).
