High Point picks up Protektor

High Point Films has picked world rights for Protektor, the Czech submission to the Oscar race for Best Foreign-Language Film. High Point will present the film at the European Film Market in February.

"Apart from maintaining a riveting story from start to finish, Protektor is distinguished by the fresh directorial talent of Marek Najbrt (Champions) that is utterly unique and compelling," said High Point's Carey Fitzgerald.

The film stars Marek Daniel (A Country Teacher [+see also:

) as a Emil Vrbata, a Czech radio reporter in Nazi-occupied Prague. Vrbata become the occupiers mouthpiece in a morally compromised bid to protect his Jewish wife (Jana Plodková). Their situation becomes even more precarious when a top Nazi official is assassinated

Protektor has screened in festivals in London and Palm Springs, among others, and was named Best Feature at the Denver International Film Festival.

Protektor is produced by Milan Kuchynka and Pavel Strnad of Negativ. Falcon distributes the film in the Czech Republic, where it has drawn more than 75,000 admissions.
