Four of this week’s seven new releases are German. First on the line-up is Markus Goller’s Friendship!, co-produced by Barefoot Films and Wiedemann & Berg. The film recaptures the euphoric atmosphere of freedom after the fall of the Berlin Wall through the adventure of two East German friends, who set out to conquer the West.

Veit (Friedrich Mücke), who is accompanied by his friend Tom (Matthias Schweighöfer), does indeed believe he will find his father in the United States. This road movie is distributed by Sony Pictures.

Meanwhile, Senator is launching Joseph Vilsmaier’s Nanga Parbat, about the incredible and tragic adventure of the Messner brothers on the Himalayan peak that gives the film its title. In 1970, they reached the summit together, but one of them never returned. The film was produced by Perathon Film.

Audiences will also have the chance to discover Angela Graas’ documentary Jagdzeit, which was filmed on a Greenpeace boat whose mission was to stop Japanese whale hunters. This title is produced and distributed by Leykauf Film.
