FILM COMMISSIONS Italy

Positive balance for Torino Piemonte

by

Last year ended with a positive balance for the Torino Piemonte Film Commission with its 38 productions, which invested €30m in the territory and employed 10,000.

Currently, shooting is wrapping up on Saverio Costanzo’s The Solitude of Prime Numbers, based on the Paolo Giordano novel and starring Isabella Rossellini and Alba Rohrwacher; and the Mediaset TV series Due Mamme di Troppo, directed by Antonello Grimaldi and featuring Angela Finocchiaro.

Other projects lined up include, a year after the inauguration of Cineporto, Lodovico Gasparini’s mini series Il Campione e il Bandito, with Beppe Fiorello; Fausto Brizzi’s double films Maschi Contro Femmine (“Men Against Women”) and Femmine Contro Maschi (“Women Against Men”) starring comic duo Ficarra and Picone and Claudio Bisio; the new film by Andrea Molaioli (The Girl by the Lake [+see also:

), Il Gioiellino (“The Little Jewel”) on the Tanzi-Parmalat scandal; the second RAI season of the Luciana Littizzetto series Fuori Classe; the latest film by independent director Luis Nero, the docu-thriller Rasputin; and the new series produced by Claudia Mori, on Fred Buscaglione, directed by Davide Ferrario and starring Filippo Timi.

Il Film Commission’s budget is approximately €4m, three million from the Region, and one from the City. Additional funding comes on a project-by-project basis from the CRT Foundation and Compagnia San Paolo.

The healthy competition from other Italian film commissions, such as Apulia, Sicily, Lazio and Lombardy, is harsh but, says president Steve Della Casa, "we have three cards in our favour: the Cineporto, the strong professional organization we have across the territory and the fact that we don’t requires productions to shoot in the region".
