Folman and Leconte at Cartoon Movie 2010

Eighteen French animated film projects, including five in 3D, will be presented at the 12th Cartoon Movie (March 3-5, 2010 in Lyon), confirming France’s dominant position on the European animation market.

The co-production forum line-up includes 50 projects from 20 European countries. A third of these are adaptations of literary works (by writers such as Edgar Poe, Charles Perrault, Joseph Conrad, Stanislas Lem and Stieg Larsson).

Among the Gallic projects, director Patrice Leconte will make his animated film debut with an adaptation of Jean Teulé’s The Suicide Shop; and Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir [+see also:

) will unveil the screenplay to his second animated feature, Le Congrès (“The Congress”), produced in association with Les Armateurs and Le Pacte.

Label-Anim is helming an adaptation of Jean Regnaud and Emile Bravo’s comic book My Mommy Is In America and She Met Buffalo Bill. Meanwhile, international co-productions include Argentinean director Juan Antin’s project Tin Gods, made in collaboration with French studio Folimage.

Over 450 professionals, including 130 buyers (of which 75 are distributors) have already signed up for Cartoon Movie 2010. The following companies will be in attendance: DreamWorks, Gaumont, MK2 Productions, Senator, Celluloid Dreams, Filmes Lusomundo, Gebeka Films, SF Film, Diaphana Distribution, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Fortissimo Films.

Cartoon Movie is organised by CARTOON with support from the European Union’s MEDIA Programme, the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) and the Rhône-Alpes region and Grand Lyon, in collaboration with Cluster Imaginove.
