Funding for cartoons

by

- Wales hosts the 13th Cartoon Forum for animated TV projects and 5 short films will compete for the Cartoon d’Or 2002

The 13th edition of Cartoon Forum will be held in Gwynedd, north Wales from 18-22 September. The event is funded by the EU’s Media Programme and this year 700 representatives of the European animation industry (250 of whom are investors) will attend. They will see 80 new animated productions, 31 from Britain alone, from 15 European countries.
Each year the Forum takes place in a different setting in order to create awareness about animation in the local institutions and industry. The event serves a dual purpose in promoting the host town or area. This edition has the support of the Welsh Assembley, Gwynedd Council, the Welsh Develoopment Agency (WDA) of Gwynedd, the Gwynedd Events Commission and TV channel S4C and S4C International.
An important sidebar event to the Forum is the Cartoon D’Or competition. It is Europe’s only award that is specific to the animation film industry and only short films that won recognition at any one of Europe’s major animation festivals are eligible to take part. This year’s partnered festivals are Annecy, Bristol, Brussels, Espinho, Stuttgart, Utrecht and Genzano di Roma. The prize money is used by the winner to make a bigger, better animated film. This year’s five nominees are Home Road Movies by Robert Bradbrook (UK – 12’18’), La Funambola by Roberto Catani (Italy – 6’), Le foto dello scandalo by Daniele Lunghini and Diego Zuelli (Italy – 7’), The invasion by Phil Molloy (UK – 14’30’’), Tornhekken by Anita Killi (Norway – 13’). The 2002 Cartoon D’Or jury is made up of Michel Fuzellier (Italy),Corinne Jenart, Cartoon (Belgium), Claire Kitson (United Kingdom) and Michael Schaak , TFC Trickompany Filmproduktion (Germany).
