Mañas back behind camera with Todo Lo Que Tú Quieras
On February 1, shooting will start in Madrid on Achero Mañas’s eagerly awaited directorial comeback, after a seven-year break during which he focused on screenwriting.
Todo Lo Que Tú Quieras (“Everything You Want”), which is essentially a love story according to its director, aims to confront audiences with prejudices and role changes in western society.
Mañas’ third feature will star Juan Diego Botto (soon to hit screens in The Widows of Thursdays), Najwa Nimri (who has just finished shooting Eduardo Chapero-Jackson’s debut feature Verbo), Ana Risueño, José Luis Gómez, Pedro Alonso and child actress Lucía Fernández.
The story centres on the Velasco family: Leo, Alicia and their daughter Dafne. They are a normal family, until Alicia dies unexpectedly after an epileptic fit. The conservative and homophobic Leo is left alone with his little girl and does his best to look after her, to the point of losing his own identity.
Mañas, who began his career as an actor aged just 15, became one of the most original and honest voices in Spanish cinema with his lively debut feature, Pellet. This phenomenal hit won four Goyas, including Best Film, and a European Film Academy (EFA) award.
Both Pellet and his second feature, November (2003), were produced by José Antonio Félez (see interview) for Tesela PC, who will, however, not be working with Mañas on his new feature.
Mañas will produce Todo Lo Que Tú Quieras through his own company, Bellatrix Films. Wanda Films will handle Spanish distribution.
