The New Tenant wins Best Short Film
by Annika Pham
The Danish/US short film The New Tenants by Joachim Back picked up Best Short Film-Live Action at last night’s Oscar ceremony in Hollywood. This is the third Oscar win for M&M Productions in this category, following Anders Thomas Jensen's Election Night (1999) and Martin Strange Hansen's This Charming Man (2003)
The New Tenant is also the second Oscar for a short film for scriptwriter Jensen, a four-time Oscar nominee in this category. The English-language short tells the story of two men who move into a new apartment that gradually reveals its terrifying history.
Currently living in New York, Back is well established as a commercials director. The film was produced by Johanne Stryhn Hørby, Christian Potalivo and Tivi Magnusson for M&M Productions, in co-production with Park Pictures in the US.
