FoG holds sit-in to protest film law delay

by

Members of the Filmmakers of Greece (FoG) initiative took over the Greek Film Center building yesterday at noon, in a symbolic sit-in to protest the Greek Ministry of Culture’s delay over much-awaited new film legislation.

The Greek Minister of Culture had revealed the new law proposal was to be opened up for public discussion in mid-January, a deadline that came and went without any further developments on the issue.

Keeping up with promises to offer their own proposals for a new film law, FoG members set up a press conference during their sit-in, during which they presented a set of guidelines they hope the Ministry will take under consideration when drafting the law.

Their main points aim at redistributing government funds in more rational and efficient ways and creating a structure to aid the local film industry in crossing the country’s borders.
