Agreement for voluntary deposit of films

by

At the 60th Berlinale, film producers (represented by the FIAPF), and European film archives (represented by ACE - Association of European Cinematheques), signed a framework agreement for setting out new arrangements for the voluntary deposit of films and film materials in European archives.

The aim is to update the 1971 terms for voluntary deposit contracts, to take into account the digital environment and EU enlargement. The framework agreement serves as a reference for voluntary deposit and includes a template contract for bilateral negotiations between depositor and film archive.

The agreement between the two organisations is supported by the European Commission’s Audiovisual and Media Policy Unit. ACE president Claudia Dillman expressed delight at the agreement and thanked in particular Gabrielle Claes, head of Belgium’s Cinémathèque Royale, who represented ACE in the negotiations.

Template contracts can be downloaded from the ACE and FIAPF websites.
