by Annika Pham
Swedish star actress Noomi Rapace of Millennium fame last week started shooting on Babycall, the new psychological thriller by Norway’s Pål Sletaune (Junk Mail).
The European co-production between 4½ Production (Norway), Bob Film Sweden and Pandora (Germany) is being sold internationally by the latter company’s sales arm, The Match Factory. It will be released domestically by SF Norge.
In Sletaune’s original script, Anna leaves home with her eight-year old son Anders, to protect him from his violent father. The baby-monitoring device she buys to check on her son in her absence can also register sounds from other flats. One day, Anna thinks she hears someone harming a child.
According to producer Turid Øverseen – co-managing director of 4½ Production with Sletaune, Håkon Øveraas, Marius Holst, Aagot Skjeldal and Karin Julsrud –Babycall will shoot 30 days in Oslo and another 5-6 days in Frankfurt, Germany from May 10-15. The NOK26m (around €3.2m) film supported by the Norwegian and Swedish Film Institutes, the Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Hessen Invest Film in Germany, was just awarded €300,000 from Eurimages.
