Honorary Award for Eichinger

At the German Film Awards ceremony, to be held on April 23 in Berlin, the Film Academy will honour the career of producer (and occasional screenwriter-director) Bernd Eichinger with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

After studying at Munich Film and Television School and directing a few films, in 1974, Eichinger founded his first company, Solaris Film. From that time onwards, he collaborated with auteurs like Wim Wenders and Edgar Reitz.

In 1979, he bought shares in Constantin, where he remains a leading figure. After the success of his production Christiane F. by Uli Edel (1981), he produced a series of prestigious titles, including The Name of the Rose, Last Exit to Brooklyn, and more recently Downfall [+see also:
