Müller to head Filmstiftung NRW as predicted

by

As widely predicted, Petra Müller will take over the reins of Filmstiftung NRW from August 2010. She will replace Michael Schmid-Ospach, who headed the institution for almost nine years.

Müller already has experience in managing a film promotion institution, having headed the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg since 2004. A Germanist by training, she began her career at the Adolf Grimme Institute, before occupying various managerial positions in the public and private sector, at consultancy firm HMR International, Cologne Conference and as a coordinator for the German Television Awards (Deutscher Fernsehpreis).

The North Rhine-Westphalia region’s Media Minister, Armin Lachet, said: “Petra Müller has an excellent reputation in the sector. She is well placed to strengthen the leading position of film and audiovisual media in North Rhine-Westphalia”.

In the interim period between Schmid-Ospach’s departure in March and Müller’s arrival in August, deputy managing director Claudia Droste-Deselaers will be running the institution.
