Ullmann to hold Masterclass at Bergman Week

After presenting Stig Björkman’s But Film is My Mistress at this year’s Cannes Classics, renowned Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann will attend the film’s Swedish premiere at Bergman Week (June 29-July 4) in Fårö, where she will also hold a Masterclass.

Ullmann’s film Faithless, which she directed from Bergman’s script, will also screen in Fårö, to be followed by a Q& with the film’s star Lena Endre as well.

Several other prestigious guests are expected to attend the annual friendly gathering on Bergman’s beloved island, including French theatre director Ariane Mnouchkine; Bergman’s long-time collaborator and production designer Anna Asp (Oscar winner for Fanny & Alexander); Norwegian playwright and author Jon Fosse, who will hold a lecture; and Swedish filmmaker Johan Kling (Darling [+see also:

). The latter, who is putting the final touches on his new film Trust Me [+see also:

, said he watched Bergman’s Smiles of a Summer Night around 50 times before writing the script for his own comedy.

Bergman classics scheduled to screen during the week include A Passion, Hour of the Wolf, The Magic Flute, Summer with Monica Smiles from a Summer Night and Wild Strawberries.

, winner of the Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award at this year’s Göteborg International Film Festival (GIFF), will be introduced by director Esther Rots on July 1.

Bergman Week is organised in collaboration with the Bergman Estate, Gotland Film Commission, GIFF and Gotland University.
