Quillévéré’s Love Like Poison scoops Jean Vigo Award

has won the Jean Vigo Award 2010.

The film – starring Clara Augarde, Lio, Michel Galabru, Stefano Cassetti, Thierry Neuvic and Youen Leboulanger-Gourvil – is co-scripted by the director and Mariette Désert. It centres on a 14-year-old girl, who leaves her boarding school to return to her village for the holidays, during which she must celebrate her Catholic confirmation. But she discovers that her father has recently left their home.

Love Like Poison was produced by Les Films du Bélier for €2.15m. The budget included co-production support from Arte France Cinéma, pre-acquisitions from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma, and backing from the Brittany and Pays de la Loire regions. Sophie Dulac Distribution will release the film in French theatres, while international sales are being handled by Films Distribution. Presented by a jury composed of former winners, critics and exhibitors, the Jean Vigo Award honours independence of spirit and originality of style. Created in 1951, the prize commends "works that may have weaknesses, awkward parts and overlong passages", but which demonstrate "a passion and a gift".

Previous winners include Claude Chabrol, Maurice Pialat, Alain Resnais, Jean-Luc Godard, and more recently Olivier Assayas, Bruno Dumont and duo Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau (who won the award last year for Family Tree [+see also:
