O’Toole, Chaplin sail on The Swan Boat

Iconic actors Peter O’Toole and Geraldine Chaplin will face the cameras again for the forthcoming Jennifer and the Swan Boat.

O’Toole will play a former ballet star who develops an improbable friendship with a mute orphan, and eventually coaches her to ballet stardom. The film unfolds mainly in the Paris National Opera House where Chaplin leads the Ballet Company. Casting is on to locate a youthful ballerina to play Jennifer. Claude Bessy, a former Prima Ballerina at the Paris National Opera will play herself and choreograph the dance scenes.

The €5m French-UK production will mark the feature debut of Michael Beyer, who is best known for his television productions of classical music including All in One Hand: The Pianist Paul Wittgenstein and Bach: Goldberg Variations. Script is by David Amory Lown, who also produces alongside Patricia Twohill Lown of Palancar Productions. Financing is from Région Ile-de-France and private equity.

Other cast members include Jeanne Manson (The Piano Player), Daniel Downing, Brigitte Moati (Tony Zoreil) and Larrio Ekson (Aurore [+see also:

). Legendary Oscar-winning composer Michel Legrand will score music.

The film is set for an eight-week shoot in Paris and surrounding locations commencing spring 2011.
