The international jury – comprising Dieter Kosslick, Isabel Coixet, Samir Farid, Alice Braga and Enrico Lo Verso – found that both of the winning films "maintain a dramatic tone while expressing the depth of today’s reality.”

From the Beyond the Mediterranean section, the popular jury gave the Audience Award to German title Friendship! by Markus Goller, while the jury of 40 students of Campus Taormina chose Joao Daniel Tikhomiroff’s Besouro and Judith Colell’s 53 Days of Winter as the top films in the Brazilian and Spanish section, respectively.
