Italy’s Daniele Gaglianone in competition at Locarno

Italian director Daniele Gaglianone (Our Years, Nemmeno il Destino) will present the world premiere of his third narrative feature, entitled Pietro, at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival (August 4-14). Gaglianone was previously at the festival in 2008, out of competition with Rata Nece Biti (“There Will Be No War”), winner of the 2009 David di Donatello for Best Italian Documentary.

The announcement was made by Locarno’s new artistic director, Olivier Père, during the festival’s usual reception at the Swiss Embassy in Rome.

There will be approximately 20 films vying for the prestigious Golden Leopard, and its accompanying 90,000 Swiss francs (approximately €60,000). The international jury is presided over by director Eric Khoo (Singapore) and comprises actress Golshifteh Farahani (Iran), actor Melvil Poupaud (France) and directors Lionel Baier (Switzerland) and Joshua Safdie (US).
