Gavin Miller has been appointed as the Chief Executive of new Scottish film body Centre for Moving Image (CMI). The Centre was created recently by merging the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) and the Filmhouse.

Miller takes his position alongside Chairman Leslie Hills and Chief Operating Officer Graham Wallace. Miller was formerly a commercial director at BBC Worldwide and has held positions in Universal Pictures and Film Tree.

The CMI has been set up to be a focal point for research and education in the cinema, television, online and gaming industries in Scotland and the UK.

Miller said, “This is an exciting opportunity to build on the brands of Filmhouse and Edinburgh International Film Festival and bringing together the broader aspects of the moving image.”

Hills said, “The concept of the CMI has been developed over some time, taking into account the ambitions of EIFF and Filmhouse, the City of Edinburgh’s Moving Image Strategy and the establishment of Creative Scotland. Scotland and the UK need a Centre for the Moving Image, which will be a powerhouse of ideas and activity. We are delighted to be at its birth.”

Hannah McGill will continue as artistic director for EIFF and Rod White as head of programming for Filmhouse.
