Optimism reigns at MBBB annual report presentation

by

The MBBB (Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg) has presented its annual report before the press. This confirms Berlin as one of the world’s most important film industry centres, and highlights its strength in terms of production, with a threefold increase in annual film shoot days compared to 2005.

MBBB’s managing directors Kirsten Niehuus and Petra Müller, together with the president and vice-president of the board of directors respectively, Barbara Kisseler and Henning Heidemanns, gave account of the return on an annual budget of almost €29m. A total of €4.7m was allocated for the promotion and marketing of Berlin as a film location, while €24.2m was earmarked for film funding, attaining a 400% investment of the money granted and seven financed films in the select list of works with over €1m in box office takings.

MBBB has also continued to focus on digital film and organising various events. With an investment of around €1m, the creation of digital, video game and Web 2.0 content has been promoted.

Events backed by the institution include the Medienwoche (Media Week), an international conference on communication media; Re:publica, a hot spot for new trends in social media in digital society; and Deutsche Gamestage, a forum for professionals in the videogame industry.
