Rebordinos to take over San Sebastian in 2011

by

The San Sebastian International Film Festival will have a new director from January 1, 2011. After ten years in the post, Mikel Olaciregui will leave the Basque event for strictly personal reasons.

He will be replaced by José Luis Rebordinos, already a member of the festival family, who used to be on its steering and selection committee. Moreover, he is director of two film events held in San Sebastian: the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and the Human Rights Film Festival.

Nevertheless, the organisation has announced in a press release that the forthcoming 58th edition, to be held from September 17-25, will be run "entirely by the current director".

Olaciregui has explained that his decision to leave comes down to a “generational change”. He said in an interview with Spanish daily El País that the event needed "new blood bringing hope, ideas and competitiveness".
