BOX OFFICE Ireland

Ireland loves His & Hers

by

Ken Wardrop’s documentary His & Hers, released across Ireland on June 18, is going from strength to strength, grossing over €300,000. This makes it the highest grossing documentary in the country since Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11.

The film, which was made for just €100,000, grossed €40,000 in its opening week and defied standard box office behaviour by exceeding that amount in its second week prompting distributors Element Pictures to add more prints. It is currently running in 10 cinemas across the country with many film clubs having booked the film for the coming months.

Director Ken Wardrop and Producer Andrew Freedman said, “It’s incredibly exciting to have received such positive reactions from both critics and cinema-goers to our first film His & Hers. As Irish filmmakers, it’s particularly encouraging to see a small film like this finding a large audience here at home.”

His & Hers is a cinematic mosaic that tells a 90-year-old love story through the collective voice of 70 ladies at different stages in their lives. It won the Audience award in the Dublin International Film Festival, the Feature Award in the Galway Film Fleadh, an IFTA for Best Feature Documentary and the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2010.
