film profile] has been awarded the Europa Cinemas Label as Best European Film in the Venice Days, it was announced today by a jury of four exhibitors - the seventh year the Label has been awarded in the section.
The Clink of Ice will now receive the support of the Europa Cinemas exhibitors who commit themselves to extend the length of its run on screen and additional promotion across the Network.
The jury issued the following statement: "This is an extremely witty film - a pitch black comedy about cancer and alcohol. Blier's anarchic and politically incorrect take on this apparently taboo subject has the same energy and freedom of spirit shown in his earlier films like Les Valseuses.Brilliantly made and performed, the film never preaches and is sure to be enjoyed and spark debate around European arthouses."
The Europa Cinemas jury in Venice comprised four Network exhibitors: Catherine Lemaire (programmer,Churchill cinemas, Le Parc and Sauvenière, Liege - Belgium); Stefan Paul (exhibitor,Kino Arsenal and Kino Atelier, Tübingen - Germany); Koen Van Daele (programmer, Kinodvor Cinema, Ljubljana - Slovenia), and Davide Rampin (programmer and education officer,Multisala Pio X and Excelsior, Padova - Italy).
