Andy Serkis (The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn) leads the mainly British cast that also includes Thomas Brodie Sangster (Nowhere Boy [+see also:
film profile]) and Aisling Loftus (Dive).
Anthony McCarten adapted his novel Death of a Superhero for the screen. The story deals with a teen obsessed with sex, music, videogames and drugs but who also suffers from a life-threatening form of leukaemia. To escape the fact of his impending demise, he escapes into a world of comic book adventures where the superhero Miraculousman battles against his mad scientist enemy The Glove.
The film is a co-production between Ireland’s Grand Pictures and Germany’s Bavaria Pictures. Funders include the Irish Film Board, the German Federal Film Board (FFA), FilmFernsehFonds Bavaria and Bavarian Banking Fund, with development support from the MEDIA Programme of the European Community.
After shooting six weeks in Dublin, the production will move to Munich. All post-production and animation work will be completed in Germany.
Bavaria Film International is handling international sales with a view to release the film in early 2012.
