Technological revolutions at Dijon Film Meetings
Is a new "e-deal" necessary for cinema? Analysing the convergence of screens and anticipating the future of production financing obligations, exclusive rights, diversity and French and European cultural policies, the Dijon Film Meetings organised by the ARP (Civil Society of Writers-Directors-Producers – see interview with delegate general Florence Gastaud) kicks off today with 600 professionals in attendance.
Presided by film director Bertrand Tavernier, the 2010 edition will host four debates (see news) over three days, which will also be an occasion to celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary.
Participants include representatives from YouTube, Dailymotion, SFR, Samsung and Sony, as well as Rodophe Belmer (managing director of Canal+), Rémy Pflimlin (new CEO of France Télévisions), Vincent Grimond (CEO of Wild Bunch), John Woodward (who has just stepped down as head of the UK Film Council to join Arts Alliance) and Jean-Pierre Decrette (development director at EuroPalaces).
The following will also take part in the debates: Marc Tessier (president of the Video on Demand Publishers Union), Richard Patry (vice-president of the Exhibitors Federation), Jean-Marc Laccarère (Direct Cinéma, new subsidiary aimed at supplying DirecTV and Virgin17, the two TNT channels of the Bolloré group), Olivier Wotling and Anne Durupty for the CNC, economists Laurent Creton and Olivier Bomsel, as well as producers Marie Masmonteil (Elzévir Films and president of the Independent Producers Union), Alain Rocca (Lazennec Productions and president of Universciné) and Alain Benguigui (Sombrero Films). Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand will also make a speech.
The main technical industry operators will be at the Dijon Meetings, as will all the managers of film arms at TV networks and regional funds. The event will also be attended by many filmmakers (Christian Carion, Claude Lelouch, Christophe Barratier, Abdherrahmane Sissako, Jean-Paul Rappeneau, Volker Schlöndorff, Frédéric Sojcher, Michel Leclerc…), producers (LGM Cinéma, Delante Films, Moby Dick Films, Epithète, Cinéma de Facto, Karé Productions, Gloria Films, Pandora Films, Gaumont, KG Productions…) and actors (Gaspard Ulliel and Melvil Poupaud), as well as Antoine de Clermont-Tonnerre (president of Unifrance), Véronique Cayla (director general of the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC)), Marc Lacan (head of Pathé Films, the group’s new production and French distribution arm) and Alain Sussfeld (managing director of UGC).
